The Best AI GIF Generator in 2026: 7 Tools Compared
Looking for the best AI GIF generator? We compared 7 tools on AI motion, .gif export, free tiers and price, from each tool's official pages (October 2026).

Picking the best AI GIF generator is harder than it sounds, because "AI GIF" means two different things. Some tools use AI to create motion from a still photo or a prompt — but hand you an MP4. Others export a real .gif — but only from media you already have. Very few do both. This comparison sorts seven well-known tools by what they actually do, using only their official websites and pricing pages, checked in October 2026.
We make one of the tools on this list, Viberot. We've tried to be as plain about its limits as about everyone else's.
The short answer#
- To animate a single photo and get a real GIF back: Viberot's AI GIF generator. It's built for exactly this, but the loops are short.
- For the most cinematic motion: an AI video generator such as Runway, Kling AI or Gemini — then convert the clip to GIF yourself.
- To make a GIF from a video or images you already have: Ezgif (free, no AI), Adobe Express or GIPHY.
How we compared them#
We looked at four questions for each tool, and only counted what the tool's own site says:
- AI motion: can it generate movement from a still image or text, or does it only edit and convert?
- Real GIF export: can you download a
.giffile directly, or only a video? - Free tier: what you get without paying, as stated on the pricing page.
- Cheapest paid plan: the lowest monthly price listed.
Where an official page didn't say something, we wrote "not stated" instead of guessing. Prices change often; treat every number below as "as of October 2026" and check the linked page before you buy.

1. Viberot — best for turning one photo into a GIF#
Viberot is built around a single job: upload a photo, describe a motion (or pick a preset like waving, hugging or dancing), and get a looping GIF back. The model draws nine frames of the moment and your browser assembles them into a .gif you can download.

- Strengths: real GIF output with no conversion step; presets for common reactions; works from just one photo; failed generations are refunded automatically.
- Limits: loops are nine frames (about 1.6 seconds), so it's for reactions and gestures, not scenes. The free plan adds a watermark and creations may appear in the public gallery. It doesn't edit existing videos.
- Price: 20 free credits every month; a GIF costs 10 credits. Pro is $19.90/month for 1,000 credits (pricing).

2. Runway — best motion quality for creators who don't mind converting#
Runway is an AI video platform: image-to-video and text-to-video with a selection of generative models. If you want long, smooth, cinematic motion, a video generator like this beats any nine-frame loop.
- GIF export: Runway's pricing page doesn't mention GIF; plan on downloading a video and converting it.
- Free tier: 125 credits, one time.
- Paid: Standard is $15/month ($12/month billed yearly) with 625 credits a month. "No watermarks" is listed as a Standard benefit, not a free one.
3. Kling AI — the cheapest paid AI video plan here#
Kling turns images and text into video. Its own guide lists the Standard plan at $6.99/month with 660 credits, the lowest paid entry point in this list.
- GIF export: not mentioned; you get video.
- Free tier: daily free credits, and Kling states that free generations include a watermark. Memberships are watermark-free.
- Note: Kling's page warns that credits, prices and plan benefits can change, so check before subscribing.
4. Google Gemini — if you already pay for Google's AI plan#
Gemini can turn any combination of text, photos or video into a video clip of up to 10 seconds.
- GIF export: not mentioned; output is video.
- Free tier: the free plan doesn't list video generation.
- Paid: AI Plus at $4.99/month includes video generation; higher tiers add more.
5. Adobe Express — easiest for decorating GIFs you already have#
Adobe Express's GIF maker lets you upload images and videos, customize them, and turn them into GIFs for sharing. It's an editor, not an animator: on its GIF page there's no AI motion from a still photo.
- Free tier: a free plan is available, with free daily generations for its AI features.
- Paid: Premium is $9.99/month.
6. GIPHY GIF Maker — best for captions and stickers#
GIPHY's GIF Maker creates GIFs from JPG, PNG, GIF, MP4, MOV or WebM uploads, or from links to YouTube, Vimeo and other sites, then lets you add captions, filters and stickers. It's the natural choice when the GIF is going straight onto GIPHY. There's no AI generation on the page, and it doesn't state a price.
7. Ezgif — the free converter that completes any AI video workflow#
Ezgif is "a simple, free online GIF maker and toolset for basic animated image editing." It has no AI, but it's the missing piece if you use a video generator: upload the clip and convert it to GIF. Files can be up to 200 MB, and clip length depends on frame rate — up to 60 seconds at 5 fps or 30 seconds at 10 fps.
Which one should you pick?#
Start from what you have and what you need at the end:
| You have | You want | Use |
|---|---|---|
| One photo | A reaction GIF to post or send | Viberot |
| One photo | A longer, cinematic clip | Runway, Kling or Gemini, then Ezgif to convert |
| A video clip | A GIF | Ezgif, Adobe Express or GIPHY |
| A finished GIF | Captions and stickers | GIPHY or Adobe Express |
Tip
If you want the video-generator route without juggling sites, Viberot also runs AI video models (including Kling and Veo) on the same credits at the AI video generator. You still need to convert the video to a GIF afterwards.
Frequently asked questions#
What is the best free AI GIF generator?#
For animating a photo into a real GIF at no cost, Viberot's 20 free monthly credits cover two GIFs without a card. For converting existing video, Ezgif is completely free.
Can AI video generators export GIFs?#
On the official pages we checked, Runway, Kling AI and Gemini describe video output and don't mention GIF export. Download the video and convert it with a tool like Ezgif.
Why are AI GIFs so short?#
GIF is an old format that compresses far worse than modern video, so long GIFs get very large. Tools that generate GIFs directly keep them short; Viberot's are nine frames, about 1.6 seconds.
Is it safe to upload photos of other people?#
Only upload photos you have the right to use. Viberot refuses photos of minors and public figures for intimate effects such as kissing, and blocks explicit content.
One photo in. GIF out.
Every account gets free credits each month, and failed generations are refunded automatically.
